Overall experience was OK - could have been better…Watch your glass- Ordered bottled water.. but waiter kept screwing up and replenishing my glass with tap water….Pay attention to your bill - Was overcharged 80$… additional items were on our bill that we did not order.The menu is lacking and can be improved.

Beautiful location and the best service I've ever had out. The waiter was the sweetest and was really friendly. The outdoor seating area was so well done (I went in the summer). The food was super tasty and I really enjoyed their Mussels!! My sister and I went here on a whim and fell in love with the restaurant. The Sangria pitchers are incredible too!

A wonderful formal Portuguese-French dining experience in the beautiful historic old port.Thank you for the fabulous service and teaching us about your restaurants history.Servers were very well informed and explained the differences in fish, wine and desserts with ease. Great selection of daily market specials.Next time I’ll skip on the soup (the Caldo verde was a bit too simple and watery for my taste) i’d opt to have an extra serving of the most tender calamari instead!!Portuguese filet mignon was cooked to perfection medium rare.Obrigada!!

Manuel is the perfect server. Old world charm as he knows the menu and wines for the perfect evening. Truest one of the best evenings ever. We ended canceling at another restaurant so that we could eat here again on our last night in Montreal. Manuel and all the staff out did themselves once again.

Food was excellent, service was excellent, we were served by Anthony who was very knowledgeable of all items on the menu. He was also very pleasant and took care of every request we made! We will be back again in the future.

Solmar is a delicious little place for Portuguese food in Old Montreal. We had dinner there last night. It was a nice change from all the Quebecois food we'd been eating during the past week on our vacation. We ordered oysters, mussels, garlic shrimp and the grilled calamari from the tapas menu. We ended our meal with chcolate profiteroles and the almond roll. It was a very cozy spot to spend the evening. I would highly recommend this place for a date night or special occasion. The servers were so helpful and checked on us many times to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our dinner service. Thank you Solmar for a memorable meal.

The desert is amazing I would recommend everyone the desert. The staff are really nice and kind. They always make fresh food. I would say this restaurant deserves a 5 star rating. Amazing owner and staff. They all ways server fresh food

My family and I are just returning from an unfortunate evening out at this restaurant...Between the three of us, we shared 5 tapas selections; the grilled octopus, the magret de canard, the grilled squid, the grilled vegetables and finally the scallops. Unfortunately, we expected better quality dishes, especially for the price than what was served to us. First of all, the grilled octopus was overcooked and chewy and garnished with canned black olives. The grilled calamari was under-seasoned, watery and I could probably find better at the self-service section in the supermarket. The scallops seemed reheated and rubbery. The duck was sliced extremely thick and our knives couldn't even break through the tough meat. And finally, the vegetables just fell flat.The gentleman that served us, interrupted my mother twice and was quite condescending; he commented on the fact that we weren't drinking and must be driving instead.I was reluctant to share with the him that our meal wasn't to our liking and chose to share with either the hostess or the maître d'hôte. I simply shared that 'Respectfully we didn't like our meal' and shared my previously stated observations. To my disappointment, she returned to invalidate my experience stating that the octopus was not in fact overcooked and that the vegetables weren't reheated. Additionally, she then took the time to explain what 'magret de canard' is. It simply added insult to injury.I wasn't expecting any discount so I'd like to share with you the cost breakdown of our meal; overpriced and disappointing.Calmars entrees- 15$Petoncle (scallops)- 22$Legumes grillees - 20$Magret (duck) - 22$Octopus- 22$

Located in the heart of Old Montreal, accessible parking lot near by, classy atmosphere, the staffs are helpful, carefully listening to the need of their customers, the Portuguese menu is appetizing, you get well served.I highly recommend that restaurants for any seafood or Portuguese meals lover.
