I had the pleasure of completing the Competent Crew/ Day Skipper program with John on S/V Warlock and am very glad I did.John is a very knowledgeable instructor with an easy to get along with attitude and provides plenty of opportunity to learn hands on. I found he gave me a lot of decision making ability while always being available to provide advice and input when needed.He makes sure his students are well taken care of and the boat is very well set up to learn on, with plenty of space and a full compliment of safety equipment that makes it easy to focus on the task at hand.I came out of the course with a lot of confidence in handling a sail boat and can’t wait to get out sailing on my own. A big thanks to John for sharing his beautiful boat and sailing knowledge so others can learn sailing.

My wife and I both took the Combined Competent Crew / Day Skipper. We both had a great time, learned a lot and successfully finished our courses.I highly recommend the school to anyone. You will have a great time and will eat very well! Just don't turn your back on your plate with Wiggle near by.

I had a great 5-day sail with John, completing the Coastal Skipper & Coastal Navigation courses. John is an amazing instructor, full of great stories and sailing history. His patient approach really helped me gain confidence in my sailing ability. I had a great two weeks adventure with John around Vancouver Island completing the Offshore Yachtmaster course.We had good food, great crew and great time. S/V Warlock was comfortable and well maintained.John is incredibly knowledgeable, experienced and very passionate about sailing.I highly recommend his Flying Bulldog Sailing school to anyone looking to take your skills to the next level.

I had been wanting to learn to sail for nearly ten years. I picked John’s sailing school mostly because of the bulldog(Wiggle).My girlfriend and I were the only students on our trip which meant we got John’s undivided attention. John has a beautiful boat and the week living on board was amazing. We didn’t get a ton of wind but we were able to learn the basics.John is highly knowledgeable and we gained lots of hands on experience. The scenery of course was beautiful, specially the Howe Sound.We made amazing progress fromDay 1 to our last day, thanks to John’s mentorship. Anyways we both loved our week with John and I have decided that I need to get a sailboat ASAP. Thanks again John.

I had been looking for a good sailing school in Vancouver for a while. Then I found Flying Bulldog Sailing School. I obtained my day skipper certification and highly recommend that for anyone wanting to learn how to sail or brush up on your sailing skills or to just get a true experience of sailing to give John a call or email. His professional approach is also down to earth and he is a super knowledgeable gentleman. I would sail anytime with him and plan on obtaining more courses in the future.

Just returned from a Mid October Competent Crew and Day Skipper 6 day liveaboard. I had almost no experience going into the course and a dream of learning to sail. John and Wiggle were amazing and I never imagined I would learn as much as I did in a 6 day course.John has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all things sailing (and honestly every topic we discussed over the trip) and is an excellent/passionate teacher. Fair warning that he won't put up with laziness/incompetence so make sure you study the course work and be ready to feel like you are drinking from a fire hose.If you are looking for top notch teaching on an absolutely beautiful boat I don't think you could do better anywhere.PS the food was also incredible.

I recently completed both the Coastal Navigator and the Coastal Skipper Advanced sail training with John. I am an experienced sailer who felt the need to refine my skills for greater safety on the water and sailing with higher performance in all weather. My recent training filled both of the objectives; thanks to the wind cooperating we had the pleasure sailing in strong winds with heavy water creating the ideal conditions to refine ones skills. The Warlock is a superb boat to advance your boat handling skills on as one has to pay close attention when handling a 51 foot boat in all conditions. Based on my experience, I fully recommend the Flying Bulldog Sailing School.

Completed combined Competent Crew Sail and Day Skipper back in July.Overall experience was very good. We had a great crew and great weather. The skipper is incredibly knowledgable, experienced and passionate about sailing which comes through in the delivery of the material and the hands on training.Being that the course takes place over a number of days, you will be living on the boat and taking on various roles over that time giving ample opportunity to apply and practice the course material. The experience was very in-the-moment; you really do become part of a crew and leave the world behind for the duration of the voyage. I personally really enjoyed the navigation aspect of the course.Our trip took us through the Gulf Islands between various small coastal communities. For BC locals, you get to see places of the province most have never heard of; it was very scenic.The boat (Warlock) was the right size for the amount of people on board, well maintained and comfortable.The school mascot provided a unique dynamic to the crew...great if you are a dog lover :)Whether you are looking to determine if sailing is for you or to take your skills to the next level I feel you will find what you need at this school.Good food, good company, good learning experience and a great adventure.Highly recommended!tips:- Bring layers, it can get colder than you think out there- Spend your time on the prerequisite course work; you will get allot more out of the course if you do.
