It's a hole in the wall of a restaurant outside and inside it's the very definition of casual dining with plastic cutlery, styrofoam containers and drinks served in a can. The star of the show here is the food - it is simply amazing. From a chowder with more seafood than broth - to fish and chips that rival any other, it was all fantastic. To be fair, we expected good things because every single local we talked to said one thing when we asked where we should eat - Charlene's was the top of the list every single time. This is definitely a must while on the Cabot Trail.

Heard about the chowder and was not disappointed. It's literally a bowl of seafood in a lovely broth with a yummy biscuit on the side. I probably should have just had a cup as the bowl was huge. Still I managed to finish it and won't eat the rest of the day. There was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. I think everyone was wanting the same thing. Thank you to the lovely staff for a great experience. Cheers

Is there such a thing as too much seafood in seafood chowder? The answer of course is no, but that doesn’t stop Charlene’s from trying to find the limit. Seriously, this is the heartiest, chunkiest, most gloriously abundant with seafood chowder I’ve ever tried. Then there’s the fish cake, which itself is substantial and delicious served with both chow and curds. Top it off with oodles of local charm and a server who may be one of the last on earth who tries and cares as much as she does, and you have a winning recipe (in more ways than one). And who knows, you might even get lucky and find out that a regular has picked up your tab. I highly recommend checking out the magic of Charlene’s for yourself!

Best chowder I've ever had! Not the best seafood, the BEST CHOWDER EVER! I ended up eating 2 bowls! The poutine was delicious. The shrimp on the Caesar salad was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The salad was delicious. Cherry cheesecake was great. Would definitely recommend!

The seafood chowder was so good that we had to come back the second day to get more. She put so much seafood into the chowder, it's definitely worth the price. Service was a little slow, but it was worth it.

Special of the day Medium rare surf and turf ended being ridiculously overdone brown through and through steak with onions and deep fried shrimps.. Lobster roll was ok, nothing special.. The whole experience was topped off by not serving beer or wine.

Loved our supper at Charlene's! Excellent food and the sweetest waitress, and a delightful random act of kindness experience. ♥️If we ever visit Nova Scotia again, we will definitely return!
