Safer Ocean Systems - Vancouver

Had the opportunity to take two courses the ROC-Marine, and Small Domestic Vessel-Basic Safety course through Safer ocean systems. Ryan Masson has been a great instructor both times. Thanks again.

I recently took the Domestic Vessel Safety course and it was awesome. I should have taken a course with S.O.S. years ago! Great hands on experience and Ryan's enthusiasm and stories will keep you entertained for days.A definite recommendation for all those keeners on the water.

I completed the domestic vessel safety course with Ryan and it was fantastic! Learned a lot, amazing instructor, and the course was really fun (especially the pool session)! Would highly recommend for anyone that works/plays with boats :)

I’ve now done two courses with SOS, both of which were online. Both instructors I had made the online course enjoyable and engaging, which can be quite difficult to do with online study. I’m excited to see how much different an in person class will be for my next course! I highly recommend SOS for your marine courses!

I have completed the SVOP and the SDVBS training for Commercial Marine operation to comply with Transport Canada. This was all completed online and worked well even from Ontario. Navigated all the requirements of online training, testing and video provisions for the practical aspects. Thank you all for the amazing training and experience, highly recommended.

I recently chose to take my SVOP training through Safer Ocean Systems. This is a classroom-based course for folks wishing to operate small commercial vessels, and covers topics ranging from collision regulations to basic navigation and chartwork. This can be a lot to digest, especially for anyone with limited previous knowledge or experience in the field. I had previously heard good things about the school and instructors, and Ryan did not disappoint. He is clearly very passionate about being on the water and covered all topics in great detail, while still taking the extra time to explain anything that students may have been struggling with. Highly recommend!

Tough Experience. I took the online SVOP course. The instructor read word for word from a Power-Point version of the course text. I knew I would have a problem keeping my eyes open, and retaining information. I started to ask the instructor via chat and email if the final exam had a re-test option. He did not answer this question once. I asked him to slow down several times to take notes and he did not for more than one slide. I hired a tutor at my own expense on the Friday of the exam (another inquiry that went unanswered). I did pass the exam but not over the 70% guideline. I also got 96% on the prerequisite course. It wasn't till the instructor informed the whole class that another student had failed, that I found out no-retest was offered and that we would have to re-do the course and pay. As this was for my work, it has been very stressful. I sent more emails to the instructor, no answer. The only reason I gave one star is because Ryan the instructor of the prerequisite in-class course was great, and Donna in the office offered a free retest, in class, in May or the next online with the same instructor. Now I just have to figure out how to miss four more days of work.

My whole experience from initial inquiry to easily rescheduling the SVOP course due to a scheduling conflict was easy. Ryan and his team were always ready to help and his method of delivering the SVOP course was well thought out and thorough. I ended up having to take the online course due to my schedule which was not my preference but Ryan is a great teacher and made it the best experience possible. He was always ready to answer questions, relating content to real life stories and using practical examples. This was the second course I've taken through SOS and would highly recommend them.

Just finished the SVOP course. A knowledgeable team with a friendly attitude. The Instructor's examples, stories, and case studies really helped all the information sink in. It was a great experience and I will be recommending your business to any of my peers that require training.

I took 3 courses with Safer Ocean Systems. Navigation Safety 1 and Chartwork 1 in Vancouver, as well as ROC-MC in Nanaimo. I had Ryan Masson and Robert Oakes as my instructors. Each course I took was extremely well laid out, and both Ryan and Robert were very engaging and informative; they made the material easy to understand. During each final exam, I felt over prepared and confident. The online booking process of the courses was also very easy, and Donna was quick to respond if I had any questions or mixups.
