Epicerie Boulangerie Patisserie Russe VOVA
Good selection and tasty food for average prices in the city.Unfortunately we got served twice with past due produce - some were over 2 years old. Which caused us terrible stomach aches and a hospital visit.Upon bringing this up to the owners - we got yelled at and told that there’s nothing they can do about this and then went on to blaming all their customers that are putting things all over the place. We had to run away as she kept yelling at our backs that there are no stores in this city that doesn’t sell bad produce.Definitely will not go back there again.

One of the best European/Russian stores in Montreal.Very fresh and quality items. Specifically bakery products. Extremely tasty!Prices are not the cheapest, but the import is not cheap either so if you crave for something from your childhood, definitely worth visiting. They also take orders for cakes to any events.Parking relatively easy to find, but not during rush hours. Location a bit hidden, but easily accessible.

Avoid this place at all cost! I've had their pastries and they tasted bad, as if they had been sitting on the counter for over 5 days. You'll read in other reviews that the place carries expired products. I don't think they're wrong.

Stepping into this deli is like walking into the treasure chest of all good things Eastern European and more. My first foray into the store was absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff, welcoming owner, smartly organized shelves – all there to help to find what you are looking for. The vitrine heart of the store offers carefully curated selection of fine locally sourced and imported meats, including: smoked pork loin, sausages, salami, ham, baby & doctors bologna, bacon, summer sausage, kielbasa and more. The fridge section is full of traditional homey specialties like pelmeni, pierogi, blini/blintzes, varieties of filleted herring in all kinds of sauces, frozen berries, etc. The freshly prepared foods feature all you can think of goodies, from kefir to sour cream, cottage cheese, feta and pickled salads, kimchi, spicy carrots, green tomatoes, dozens of takes on horseradish, mustard and spicy Georgian condiments, etc. The shelves display an impressive collection of non-refined oils, all sorts of grains including different grades and brands of buckwheat, marinated mushrooms and canned veggies of all kinds. The tea section is abundant in teas from all over the world from Ahmad to Kusmi to myriads of herbal teas. Then, goes famous Russian tea ceremony section: rare jams, honey, preserves and candies in so many varieties. The suite fresh pastry section is an absolute try with its Napoleon cakes and traditional cookies, not to mention stuffed pirozhki and khachapuri that are also there for a take out. To me, the gastronomic core of this store is store is all kinds of preserved fish – salted-cured, pickled, smoked or dried: mackerel, salmon, sturgeon, halibut, whitefish, etc. AND, its prized by-product, caviar, at more affordable price than anywhere else: got myself 100g jar of Red Gold salmon caviar for $15.00 a pop and it was an excellent quality! I was also suggested to try a new product – slightly salt-cured mackerel fillets - WOW what a discovery! The melting-in-your mouth fish is truly a sashimi grade! Fish and caviar were not the only indulgence that drew me to this deli. The store has its own bakery making one of the best traditional Slavic breads and pastries in Montreal including freshly baked Borodinsky bread. A few more condiments into the basket like a snow-white sauerkraut, few dill pickles, eggplant caviar and you r good to throw yourself a small home feast in minutes! They told me they also make event cakes and bake specialty breads like kulich, challah, paskha, korovai on holidays or for the order. What a gem of a discovery! I will return for sure.

It is located in a quiet place and gives me a chance to see some ordinary things from Eastern Europe. The stuff is very friendly and pretty. I tried a kind of like cake or something. It looks like a cream at a first glance but it is in fact a fragile solid. An interesting experience.
