I was told by a friend that this place used to be really good a few years ago, but that's definitely not the case now.The veggies are sad and wilted, the chicken is mostly broken bits of bone, and I could hear the microwaves running constantly in the kitchen. There's almost no chicken in the chicken stew, the jerk chicken salad, or the wrap. The dishes aren't cheap, either. It would be understandable if the food was halfway decent, considering it's downtown, but for this quality of food, it's kind of ridiculous.

was in here today at lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. i tried the jerk wings with macaroni pie and was blown away! Perfect portions and decent prices for downtown. presentation was nice too. My friend had ox tail, which i was skeptical to try but looked delicious! the atmosphere was super relaxed and comfortable. all in all, i would revisit this place and recommend it to anyone looking for good food downtown.

I went here as part of Downtown Dining Week with friends. (March 2015). The service was atrociously slow. We were okay with waiting 30 mins for the first course of 3 to be prepared, but we were not prepared for waiting 30+ minutes between each course. The temperature in the restaurant was cranked up to >30 degrees. Yes, it's a carribean" feel

Food was good, but the restaurant gives a not fully established" vibe: The menus we received were more brief than what was listed on the website

A new owner took over Cafe Caribe on Oct. 18/17. His name is Patrick Robinson & he also sells his Jamaican Patties at the Callingwood Farmers Market! He now is operating Cafe Caribe & has a Full Menu including a Full Bar . There are many different Caribbean Rums, Beers and other Spirits ! On his menu , you will find his Jamaican Patties, Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Beef or Chicken, Roti , Coconut Curry Shrimp on Linguine (Yummy ... My Favourite! ). Also Pumpkin Chicken Soup, Salads and More !

Unsatisfied customer. I was born & raise in Trinidad and because I don't cook I have to look elsewhere for Caribbean food. I have tired the chicken roti 3 times and each time it was different and not very satisfying. The first the lady put pepper on the roti without my request, 2nd time the roti was ver dry and under cooked and 3rd time they tried to make the filling, ie. the curry potato and chicken not dry but it was very bland and their was chicken skin on the chicken and thats just gross, (the only time I like skin on my chicken is if it's fry chicken). I usually call ahead for my order but I just end up waiting 15-20 mins when it's just me, but then again the reason I call ahead is so I don't have to wait. Although, I have not sit and eat in the restaurant, I often wonder why it's so dark, I don't want to sit and eat in the dark. The food is not made fresh daily, I can always hear the microwave going but when u get the food it's not hot.. I will not eat here again.

If I could give this establishment a negative number review, I would.I live nearby and regularly walk my dogs downtown and past this restaurant. Being that I have Jamaican family members and enjoy the cuisine, I have been meaning to go down and support this restaurant and see if their roti compares to my uncle's ;)However, tonight while walking my dogs past the empty, closing restaurant at 10 o'clock on a Wednesday night, the owner stormed out of the restaurant, threatened me, screamed inches from my face and demanded that I not take my dogs past his establishment or allow them to do their business (which immediately gets picked up and disposed of properly) in one of only two mulched areas that are available within a reasonable radius from my loft for my dogs to do their business in.It was so bad that I had to follow through on my promise to call the police if he continued threatening me (which he did) while I could not get away, as my dog was going to the bathroom.I did not realize that this man owns the sidewalk to be able to determine who can walk past or Rice Howard way to be able to determine who is allowed to be in the vicinity, for that matter----Which is mighty ironic considering he likely leases his space, meanwhile I own mine and am a tax-paying, law-abiding, Downtown Edmonton Community League Member and avid volunteer in the downtown community.I always wondered why this place is always empty, since the food looks amazing....Turns out, it's because the owner is the type of person who does not deserve mine or anyone else's business. Not with his attitude or treatment of those in his downtown community.

I swear I used to love this place. I used to go alot. But the last time I went there, I bought Roti chicken. When I went back at work and started to eat. I found a long hair. I took it out and put it to the side, I opened the meal more, and I found a 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... It was filled with hair! I went back to show them, even they were surprised. Now, I'm scared to go back.

CHICKEN ROTI - Lunch menu item is fantastic! It is the perfect balance of vegetables, curry and chicken. The authentic flavours make me feel as if I am on vacation. I highly recommend this place, they have improved the 'aura' and added a large screen TV with Jamaican stars performing musical acts with dancing. Previously, I was impressed with their Rum collection, and loved the Cocoanut Rum.
