Beyond Van Gogh Victoria

While my friend and I enjpyed the 'main event' which was wonderfully done the other parts were a big disappointment. When we drove up I was guided to park in the disabled spot as I have a mobility issue...only to find that it was the furthest spot away from the entrance...really? I had purchased our tickets online (the only way to buy them)...and got charged to do it! Then I opted to purchase the tickets that had a 'no time limit' while participating....I have a mobility issue and didn't want to be kicked out by a certain time if I was slower than most... but honestly, I have no idea what the extra cost bought us! There didn't appear to be any time limit for anyone so why did I buy tickets to extend our stay? Gift shop was ridiculous...a scrunchie (who would want one?) cost $15.99!Sadly lacking in places to sit and not a place to buy any drink....we were disappointed and the whole thing cost $165.00 for two people!

I had looked into this and decided it was overpriced for what it was - and then received ticket as a gift. It was something different to do and I am glad I went. However, the digital display in the main area was very blurry in a number of places, whether down to the tent vibrating or the display itself, I’m not sure - but you are buying a digital experience so it should be clear. It was quiet when we went so I think it was a much better experience than others may have had in that sense.But, can we just talk about this photo for a moment?!? Did this whole exhibit go forward without hiring a copyeditor?“The sight of the stars always MAKES me dream.”Not to be pedantic, but for the price of the tickets you don’t want to see typos emblazoned on the screen like that. It’s amateur.

If you don’t know much about Van Gogh, you’d better do some research before purchasing the tickets, because the show won’t teach you much more than Wikipedia. Parking in front of the building is very limited and cost $10. You can park on the street for free but it is not that easy to find a spot. Gift shop is extremely expensive. We do enjoy the show of King Tut, Van Gogh one is just okay.

Upon entry into the tent, (yes, it was in a giant tent) you wind past several illuminated boards with info and quotes about Van Gogh. If you read everything, it will take you about ten minutes. you then enter the huge main display room, artwork projected on the walls, floor, and freestanding walls in the middle of the room. The display is dazzling, revealing many Vincent's self portraits that occasionally blink, and his extensive collection of art. The video display is on a loop which repeats about every 40 minutes.Staff presence was minimal. Children were allowed to run around yelling and screaming, rough housing, while their parents looked on. This added noise took away from the accompanying music of the display. A real distraction.Two girls set up a camera on a tripod and took pictures of themselves doing yoga and cartwheels in a corner of the tent. Another distraction, no staff around to tell them to pack it up.There were scattered benches to sit on.Tickets can only be booked online with a $6 booking fee attached to each ticket, which you can not avoid. No tickets sold at the door. Everything is online.Seniors only get a break on the price Monday to Thursday.Prices for adult tickets are $10 higher on the weekends.They really pushed the add-on's. When booking tickets you were constantly prompted to purchase the Life in Letters". Even when you selected the 'no thanks' box

Beyond Van Gogh - if you like art, great place to visit! I think the entrance was a bit pricey. The person who brought the art to live is very, very talented! The gift shop is great and lots of options for souvenirs!

Our family really enjoyed the presentation of his work and felt immersed in it. Worth checking out.

VERY NICE, VERY NICHE: I think the main show loop is put together very well. If you are an avid Van Gogh fan, I anticipate that you will very much enjoy the high resolution art and animations. VIP tickets include a VR experience (we opted out).For me and my wife on an anniversary vacation as a trip activity, we found it a bit overpriced and unguided. Expect a lot of reading on still images as you enter. The waterfall room connects the two experiences and has a couple of benches to sit on and look at it. I walked past it by accident. You can pay more to stay in the XL tent for 2 hours before/after your booking time if you’re a die-hard fan and want to analyze the art. We stayed for about 40 minutes.Review stars are respective of high price compared to our personal expectations as portrayed from website (ours may differ from yours). This review is for awareness, as such this experience is highly a matter of “taste”. I want people to be able to decide if “this is for them” based on their travel budget and schedule.Thanks for the experience nonetheless!

As someone who knew very little about art I walked away from this exhibit with a much stronger understanding of the impact a painting can have on an individual. I appreciated that they did not put a time limit on how long you can enjoy the exhibit, which allowed us to really take it in. Well worth the money, and definitely recommend taking a psychedelic prior to, the experience was certainly designed for it.

Attended the opening night event at the Round House in Victoria of the acclaimed Beyond Van Gogh Victoria event. So inspirational! Can’t imagine a better venue to host it! Very creative. Enjoyed a lovely meal afterwards at Spinnakers Pub literally across the street! Totally recommend them both!

Beautiful exhibit, a bit pricy for what you get but the immersive section makes it worth it.
